probably African American, 19th century, walnut, rear posts each carved with finely detailed portrait busts, traces of inlay or pigment (one glass eye present), top slat carved with clasped hands, hand fashioned frame with through-tenon construction, early rope seat, patinated, probably original surface, 31 in.
Condition
the heads with some chips and surface losses (probably lacking three inset eyes), looseness at joints, crack at one real stile, cracks and losses at front leg attachments, other surface distress, paint splatter, losses at woven seat
