Description
Fernandina console with mirror; Spain, mid-19th century.
Oak, walnut and ebony wood, gilded details.
Measurements: 177 x 110 x 61 cm.
Restored. In good state of preservation.
Console with mirror, from the Ferdinand VII period. The console follows a typology typical of the period, with a frontal ogee cut-out, ball-shaped feet, and a combination of uprights carved in grooved designs based on organic movements and sepentate forms. The legs are made of ebony wood with a rounded shape and support the main board of the console table.
The mirror, rectangular in shape and sober, is supported on the sides in the form of an ebonised wooden snake with the heads of the reptile in gilt.
The Fernandine style is the style developed in the decorative arts - especially furniture - in Spain during the reign of Ferdinand VII (1814-1833). It succeeded the Empire style and preceded the Elizabethan style.
