Additional Information: The African male figure Waka-Sona, " being of wood," in baoulé, çi-contre, evokes a besieged oussou, being of the earth. It is part of a type of statues intended to be used as a medium tool by the komien soothsayers, the latter being selected by the asye usu spirits in order to communicate the revelations of the beyond. The second type of statues are the spouses of the afterlife, masculine, the blolo bian or feminine, the blolo bia . The whole body and face are decorated with rectangular checkerboard patterns in reference to tribal scarification, and ringlets representing bracelets. The beard was stiffened by anointing with shea oil. These statues were kept on the altar bo osu where sacrifices were made to the spirits. Irregular and granular matt patina.
